Ritual Sins by Anne Stuart

Book Description

A Wounded Woman
Rachel Connery is a woman with a mission – to destroy Luke Bardell, the charismatic man who seduced millions of dollars from her dying mother, thus robbing Rachel of her inheritance. Now Rachel wants revenge – and she’s willing to enter Luke’s lair and risk the lure of his magnetic personality in order to get it.

A Dangerous Man
Luke Bardell is a master manipulator. He always gets what he wants from people, and Rachel Connery looks like an especially easy mark. She is beautiful and angry and spoiled, and the challenge of melting her icy exterior inspires him. For Luke it is a standard ritual.

A Deadly Desire
But desire is a dangerous weapon that cuts two ways. Rachel could get trapped in a nightmare of forbidden feelings…or she could use her strength and intelligence and fierce will to find a way into Luke’s heat and force his utter surrender to her – body and soul.

Anne Stuart can’t write a bad book, I honestly think. This is another compelling read from the creator par excellence of dangerous bad boy heroes.

The larger-than-life Luke is the highlight here. Magnetic, commanding and multi-layered, he lights up all his scenes. Even at his most pleasant, he exudes an air of danger. And he keeps me turning the pages – to discover the secrets he keeps and the nightmare that bedevils him.

Rachel, on the other hand, is rather unpleasant to read about. Tense, angry and defensive – although she has good reasons to be – she almost wears down my enjoyment of the story. She does ease up toward the last quarter of the story, and so redeems herself.

The story is fast-paced and intriguing. Almost from the outset, the reader knows that Luke is a charlatan, who, through his Foundation Of Being, siphons money into his bank account. Unbeknownst to him, there are sinister incidents afoot and seemingly wholesome individuals are plotting his downfall. Throw in vengeful Rachel, and you have a potent mix. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader’s interest going right to the end.
